A gorgeous sunset family portrait session

Time really goes way too fast. It’s hard to believe the kids are this big!

My sisters and mum all have their birthdays within a few days of each other. It’s always hard to figure out what to do for them so this year I thought it would make an excellent gift for them all to each have a gorgeous sunset family portrait and to get a fantastic photo of the cousins all together too, an obvious winner for a gift for grandma!

We had planned a cousin get-together at my place so we made good use of my favourite local outdoor location to capture these incredibly beautiful golden hour family portraits. It’s a quick walk to my little outdoor studio spot and somehow between my husband walking down with the dog, me and my kids jumping in my sister’s cars, we all forgot the house keys and locked ourselves out for a few hours when we got back! We eventually had to call a locksmith, but the crazy attempted break-in hijinks will be a hilarious tale told for many years to come!

Autumn and Winter are the best seasons for outdoor family photo shoots, the light is perfect at a great time to suit dinner and bedtime routines for little ones and it’s cool enough to wear cute outfits and snuggle together without getting hot and sweaty!

There are 20 years between all the kids so I was prepared to use all my negation techniques but I was surprised at how good they all were for me! I think they all actually had fun! That’s a big deal- it’s so hard to photograph your own kids (I’m including all the cousins in that) because they will push you more than they would a stranger! My two have been over being my models for years!
I am so glad we took the time to do these photos, it gets harder every year to get them all together at the same time and they are all growing up too fast. I know I’m going to treasure them forever!
